The Prom Meats Story.
John Davies started working for a local butcher in 1977. He formed a partnership with the owner and soon after bought the business.
John built the current shop in Main Street Foster in 1980 and has since made significant updates and refurbishments in 2007 & 2017 involving rebuilding existing fridges, adding office space, lunch room and a large holding cool room, to create the successful business that is there now.
Prom Meats’ loyal customers are both local and holiday makers. Many out-of-towners don’t experience good traditional butchers anymore and John prides himself on creating a unique experience for both his substantial local customer base and tourists alike.
Prom Meats is a quality butcher with closely linked supply chain which guarantees the supply and quality of local grass fed Gippsland meat, most of which comes from Tynacya Farm. Prom Meats also provides small producers the opportunity to cut and pack their own product, which then goes out to farmers markets and distributed via social media and the Prom Coast Food Collective.
While the main focus is local beef and lamb, Prom Meats most popular products are hamburgers and sausages. High-end steaks sell very well as do butterflied legs of lamb and cutlets and of course chicken schnitzels are a very popular choice.
